Join Sussex Trail Runners for an epic 13-mile (21 km) trail run through the stunning South Downs! We’ll meet at The Oval, Peacehaven (Telscombe Road entrance) before setting off on a scenic route packed with rolling hills, rugged trails, and breathtaking views. With a total elevation gain of 1,320 feet (402 meters), this route offers the perfect mix of challenging climbs, fast descents, and flowing ridgeline trails.
The run takes us through the Castle Hill National Nature Reserve, a haven for chalk grassland wildlife, before heading towards Standean Bottom, where you’ll be rewarded with sweeping panoramic views of the Downs. Expect mud, hills, and some exhilarating trail running!
This is a fantastic opportunity to explore some of Sussex’s best trails while running alongside a friendly group of fellow enthusiasts. All paces welcome—come for the adventure, stay for the views!

Join Sussex Trail Runners for an adventurous 11 miles (18 km) trail run starting from Castle Hill car park, exploring the stunning chalk grasslands and historic trails of the South Downs. With 1,312 feet (400 m) of elevation gain, this route offers a perfect mix of rolling hills, fast descents, and beautiful open trails.
Our journey begins through the Castle Hill National Nature Reserve, known for its rich wildlife and sweeping views. We’ll follow the iconic 'Yellow Brick Road', a long, straight track with wide-open vistas—perfect for stretching your legs and picking up the pace. The route then takes us to the haunting remains of Balsdean Ghost Village, a settlement destroyed during WWII, where echoes of history meet nature’s reclamation.
Expect challenging climbs, wide-open downland, and a fantastic mix of terrain from grassy trails to chalky tracks.

Arundel, Amberley Mount & Wepham Down

Join Sussex Trail Runners for a breathtaking 20 km (12.5 miles) trail run through the rolling landscapes of the South Downs, starting from the historic town of Arundel. This route features 440 meters (1,450 feet) of elevation gain, taking in stunning views, challenging climbs, and flowing trails through one of Sussex’s most beautiful areas.
After traveling through Arundel Park, we’ll ascend Amberley Mount, a classic South Downs climb offering rewarding panoramic views, before traversing the scenic ridgeways of Wepham Down, where wide-open trails stretch across the landscape. Expect a mix of undulating terrain, grassy trails, and chalky tracks, making for an exciting and varied run.

Arundel 50k Group Run

The Sussex Trail Runners Arundel Ultra 50k is a group run through the stunning South Downs, starting and finishing in Arundel. This social, non-competitive run takes participants along a scenic route past historic sites, including an ancient Roman road and villa near Bignor, before heading back through the picturesque village of Amberley. The terrain includes trails, grassy paths, and some paved sections, with rolling hills providing a moderate challenge.
For a comfortable experience, participants are encouraged to have run at least 20 miles in training within the past three months prior to the event. Essential gear includes trail shoes with good grip, a hydration pack, enough nutrition and fluids to last the distance and weather-appropriate layers. This 50k group run is perfect for those looking to enjoy a day out with a beautiful, endurance-building journey through some of the South Downs’ most captivating landscapes.
We will plan to finish the route in 6-7 hours.

Firle, Berwick & Firle Beacon Loop

Join Sussex Trail Runners for a stunning 19 km (11.8 miles) trail run, starting from Firle Village Car Park, taking in the rolling landscapes and breathtaking views of the South Downs. With 280 meters (920 feet) of elevation gain, this route blends challenging climbs, flowing descents, and open downland trails.
The run begins with a gentle stretch towards Berwick, passing through farmland and quiet country paths. We then climb onto the South Downs Way, following the ridgeline towards Firle Beacon, an iconic viewpoint offering sweeping panoramas across the Sussex countryside and coastline. The trail descends via Firle Plantation, winding through peaceful woodland before returning to Firle village.
Expect a mix of chalky ridgeline trails, soft grassy tracks, and beautiful open landscapes. Whether you’re here for the workout or the scenery, this run showcases some of the best trails the South Downs has to offer.
